Variable Rate Manure

This one can be pretty easy.  Manure On.  Manure Off.  In some fancier setups and liquid manure applications, you may have adjustable rates in multiple management zones, but starting basic with VRT manure makes sense.  It's figuring out when to turn on and off that's key.  Here are the steps:

  • Calculate the amount of manure resource you have to apply
  • Analyze the manure the best way possible to find out nutrient content
  • Find out fields and areas to apply in the fields and start working towards that:
    • Choose fields with low overall levels that need a boost
    • Take a couple samples in a low and high zone in a field to spot treat your manure
    • Take site specific sampling approaches such as grid sampling to determine best areas to apply
  • Accompany your applicator with a map of where to apply, what rate, and how much.  This might be a paper copy, or maybe you ask us to stake out the areas we've determined to need the manure.

Manure is a precious resource (maybe precious is the wrong word!?), but regardless, we want to help you better allocate this resource.VRT Manure Icon
